Week 1 : Random Daily Challenge

Speak to a different stranger (in person) every day

Here's the deal every day for seven days we will try to accomplish this challenge. Thereafter I will blog about my experience in rising to this challenge.

TIPS

Opener

Keep it simple :  hello how are you? Nice day today? Is the train delayed today?

Body language

Give a disengaging warm smile, take on a calm and cheerful tone.

Location

: choose somewhere public, train, tube, platform shopping centre

Require response

: ask a question about something around you? Is this train late? Where do you work

Be funny

: humour always works, this is where the smile comes in

Body language

: Be aware of his or her body language and yours. Crossing arms, no no, crossing legs, no no , keep hands steady and show interest.

Be sincere

 : you will know how

Tell a story

: keep it funny, short and relevant

No when to close

"have a nice day" "It was nice talking to you", always smile, and breath

When you post : tell me where you rose to the challenge. Talk about your failures as well as victories. Remember failures are not failures, they are learning curves.

This is December's challenge.

Let me know what you think about this challenge?

Failure is not an Option!

Smoke and Mirrors

The motivator

Why do I want to give up smoking. All smokers ask themselves this question.
Live longer.
Better sex
Faster running times
The truth is smoking makes me ill, and these days I do it to punish myself. . So it's time to love myself

So I am going to talk you through my giving up journey with Boxsets and films.

Day 1: Nip tuck  (7/11/2014)

It is Friday 7th November. I already tried giving up smoking on Wednesday but relapsed on Thursday. I day, how poor.
So sat  writing this blog as I catch up  Nip Tuck on TV episode 4 series 5. Its  the most mind sapping series of Nip Tuck ever, not to say the other series were much better after season 2. Nip Tuck centres around Christian Troy and Sean McNemara.
The plots just keep getting more stranger. I get the strong impression that by this point in the  5/6 series the producer was floundering and ideas were drying up.  I am watching the episodes more out of duty I owe to the characters. Not sure I can manage series 6 though.

Still if I could just get through disc 7 my duty will be honoured. As the characters reach their mid fourties they really are reminding me of my own mortality as well. Not good , need to drop this boxset soon.  Do not want thee same feeling I got when I got to the eend of 6 Feet Under. I am not even going to remind myself of how that ended. It has taken this long to get over that feeling of mortality and blogging about the end would only put an end to that time sensitive therapy.

I am actually watching a kid having plastic surgery to make himself look older so as to please his older pregnant girlfriend, incidentally on the sex offenders register having served jailed time for her relationship with the boy. Apparently to stop other people noticing the age differences. After thee operation the look on her face betrays the truth as she looks at the boys younger brother. She is a paedophile attracted to young boys.
The on going scenes of Christian having sex with woman now has become boring and sad. What is the producer thinking I say at this point. Troy's ex girlfriend, who has had a baby with his son, so the baby is his granddaughter , wants to give the 5 month old baby collagen injections. The majority of the characters are mental with no sense of morality.

Day2 : Gammorah (8/11)

Gamorrah, wow , is a very violent Italian mobster boxset. It is a mix between The Wire and The Surpranos.

Day3 : Greys Anatomy - Season 10 (9/11)

Series 10 of Greys Anatomy is greattttttttttt. Missed the theme tune , missed the characters. The emotional content is as good as ever too.
Episode 1 :
Begins where season 9 finishes. Richard Webb on the floor after a huge electric shock.
Episode 2-4 :
Takes us through the relationship between our two lesbian attendees as they struggle to be civil to each other after one caught the other of extra marital affair/fling in season 9. They also focus on attempts to raise money to rebuild the damaged hospital. I love the way we now focus on the new trainees while the established characters play mothers and fathers to the new generation.

"Nobody knows where we might end up, nobody knows".

Day1 Greys Anatomy - Season 10 (15/11/2014)

Yesterday I had relapse and smoked a cigarette. Woke up disappointed with a deflated feeling. Went for a 9k run to punish my body or myself for capitulating.

I think I may over did it cause my thighs are chaffed raw and l mean raw. However its the jazz festival at South Bank today and i am heading there.

The world is my oyster. With my new weapon of choice, my tablet i'm off to tap into BFBI_WIFi.

Oh and catch some Jazz organised by South Bank

 Day 2 : Greys Anatomy - Season 10(15/11/2014)

"Dr Derrick Sheppard please hold for the president of the United States"

Motivational events this week

SAN FRANCISCO -- Fire officials said 21 people at an event hosted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins suffered burns while walking across hot coals and three of the injured were treated at hospitals.
The injuries took place during the first day Thursday of a four-day event at the San Jose Convention Center hosted by Robbins called "Unleash the Power Within." Most of those hurt had second and third degree burns, said San Jose Fire Department Capt. Reggie Williams.
Walking across hot coals on lanes measuring 10 feet long and heated to between 1,200 to 2,000 degrees provides attendees an opportunity to "understand that there is absolutely nothing you can't overcome," according to the motivational speaker's website.

Presentation challenge

Naked man in audience

I have always been apprehensive about public speaking. Dry lips, fast beating heart, sweaty palms. All have these ailments affected me. during a presentation.  It began after a not too successful  presentation at University. I ended up 5 minutes into the presentation with slides upside down on the projector. Yes we used projectors in those days.

Today I have to host a 2 hour workshop. It is on a subject matter I understand so how bad can it be. Today's daily challenge.

I have a dream

I have been working on the initiative at work for the past three months. Sitting on the train into Cannon Street London on a rainy day , watching the rain drops  on the window, clasping my rucksack I smile nervously at the lady sat in front of me. Could she tell I was especially nervous today. I have always aspired to gain confidence in front of an audience. Practice, practice,  practice they say. My presentation is at 2pm so I will have to get my lines straight.  Looking at my reflection in the window, I am sure I look more haggard than usual. Is this all in my head.?  I remember back to the best speech ever written and delivered :-

"I have a Dream" Martin Luther King.  Looking for that inspiration and energy today for this challenge.

Breath out

The workshop started off nervy. Two hors before I was contemplating cancelling it as my wing man was working from home and would not bee present in person. My senior manager however would be. The idea I was pitching was not ground breaking, in fact it was over due however convincing the old guard in a Banking institution of a new ideology still amounts breaking a World record.

It started off nervy I was saying and after 5 minutes I just laid down my notes, raised my arms and let what I wanted to say flow from my heart. Hand gestures and somewhat emotive language was employed however this is my style and one has to stick to form. It is the only way energy can flow from my body in a presentation. Prepare , prepare , prepare then be prepared to deviate off  and wing it.
It went well and I felt exhilarated after. Now to write up the minutes and to plan next week second workshop.

Food diary challenge

You are what you eat

I run around 20 km a week yet I feel like my body is fighting a losing battle. True I am 45 so that must be a factor however I feel there is the next level I must go to. Monitor what I eat.

Certain foods give you energy , produce acid in the stomach, produce alkaline in the stomach. Some foods are digested through the small intestine and there should be given every chance of reaching there through an empty stomach. The foods are fruits, the no. foods in life.
 .

Research has long highlighted that people who keep a record of what they eat and drink and how active they are known by health professionals as ‘self monitoring’ – have more weight loss success.

Within a healthy balanced diet, a man needs around 10,500kJ (2,500kcal) a day to maintain his weight. For a woman, that figure is around 8,400kJ (2,000kcal) a day.

Shocking Truths

This food diary blog will be a scary slap in the face revelation. I already no I rarely eat vegetables. Step one is to prove my diet is one dimensional. Step 2 is to broaden it.
